Aug 5, 2018, First Coast News, Jacksonville, FL: Changes you can expect this school year following Parkland shooting https://www.firstcoastnews.com/article/news/local/changes-you-can-expect-this-school-year-following-parkland-shooting/77-580812266 … According to the Florida Department of Education, you should expect for your child's public school to have had a security risk assessment. Any critical safety improvements will have been made immediately. By September 1st, each school is required to form a threat assessment team that will meet monthly to review potential threats to students and staff. All public schools must have at least one safety officer or armed volunteer guardian. There will also be youth mental health training for school personnel to help them identify signs of mental illness and a mental health professional available for students at each school. "Big fan of increasing funding and personnel for mental health issues because I think a lot of these shooters have mental health problems," said Duval resident Marcus Nerone.

Childhood Lost
Children today are noticeably different from previous generations, and the proof is in the news coverage we see every day. This site shows you what’s happening in schools around the world. Children are increasingly disabled and chronically ill, and the education system has to accommodate them. Things we've long associated with autism, like sensory issues, repetitive behaviors, anxiety and lack of social skills, are now problems affecting mainstream students. Blame is predictably placed on bad parenting (otherwise known as trauma from home).
Addressing mental health needs is as important as academics for modern educators. This is an unrecognized disaster. The stories here are about children who can’t learn or behave like children have always been expected to. What childhood has become is a chilling portent for the future of mankind.
