Middlesex Health announced Monday that the Mayer Center – which will provide developmental services to young people with challenges like autism, cerebral palsy, and speech disorders – is slated to open in Essex in early November.

The Mayer Center will be located in a new 3,100-square-foot center in renovated space at Middlesex Health’s Essex Medical Building at 252 Westbrook Road. The space will include a sensory gym and group therapy spaces.

Middlesex Health said the center’s services will include, but is not limited to, behavioral analysis and treatment, speech and language pathology, physical therapy and occupational therapy services.

Brian Taber, Middlesex Health’s director of physical rehabilitation, said in a statement that “There are many children who could benefit from the developmental services we will provide. Early intervention is very important and may help improve brain development, learning, mobility, and communication and social skills.”…

Middlesex Health spokesperson Amanda Falcone said the Mayer’s made a “six-figure donation” to the project’s capital fundraising campaign. In total, Falcone said, the capital fundraising campaign has raised about $750,000 toward its $1 million goal.

Middlesex Health is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, which includes Middlesex Hospital, a not-for-profit magnet hospital with 275 beds and two Middlesex Health Cancer Center sites.
