May 6, 2025, WDAM TV, Moselle, MS: Ellisville PD explains process in requesting autistic road sign
If you’re looking to get an autism sign on your road or in your area, here’s what you should do:
The Ellisville Police Department said to contact your local city or county officials, depending on where you live.
If you live on a state highway, you need to contact the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
The official will come out to evaluate and make sure there is a need for the sign in the area.
The waiting process to get the sign varies.
“With these autistic signs, they’re special order,” said Chief Bruce Russell, Ellisville Police Department. “So, depending on the time frame of us ordering them, whether they are in stock, they have to be made.”
“You may be looking at a period of a couple of days, like if we have ‘Children at Play’ signs or a couple of months waiting on a special-ordered sign to get here in the mail.”
The sign will be covered by the taxpayers.
