DENVER — Soar Autism Center said 600 children have received developmental pediatrics consultations through a program launched in fall 2025 that combines medical services with autism therapy.

The program places developmental pediatrics providers alongside each child’s board-certified behavior analyst, speech-language pathologist and occupational therapist. Services include care coordination, medication management, laboratory evaluation and referrals, supplementing care from a child’s primary care clinician and other specialists. . . .

The program aims to address limited access to developmental pediatrics. An American Academy of Pediatrics workforce analysis found one developmental-behavioral pediatric subspecialist for every 100,000 U.S. children. A separate national study of programs affiliated with children’s hospitals reported an average estimated wait of 5.4 months for initial evaluations.

Soar released the figures Oct. 27 during ADHD Awareness Month, highlighting attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder as one condition that can occur alongside autism. . . .

Soar also helps families navigate genetic testing, including test selection, insurance authorization, interpretation and follow-up. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends offering genetic evaluation to families of children with autism.

Soar provides autism care for children up to age 6, including therapy based on the Early Start Denver Model, speech therapy, occupational therapy, diagnostic evaluations and developmental pediatrics. It operates centers in Colorado, Arizona, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Its Pennsylvania centers operate in partnership with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
