The Hughes Center has a long history of providing residential care and treatment to children and adolescents with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities in Danville, Virginia. Additionally, two specialized educational programs provide services to students with disabilities in Danville and South Boston, Virginia. The Christiansburg program will be modeled after the success of our existing programs.

Located at 1650 Cambria Street NE, Christiansburg, VA the school is the third private day placement developed by The Hughes Center serving children and adolescents with a variety of disabilities including Autism and Intellectual Disabilities. The school serves children and adolescents grades 5-12 with an Individualized Education Plan. Special Education students within the Montgomery County and surrounding areas will be able to access their specialized educational services in a highly structured and supportive environment.

The program will be licensed through the Virginia Department of Education to serve 28 students with disabilities. The school will also seek accreditation through the Virginia Association of Special Education Facilities (VAISEF) and COGNIA, a national accreditation organization recognizing highly qualified educational programs. A low student to teacher ratio will enhance the learning opportunity for students who may struggle in traditional educational settings. Direct instruction will be provided including social skills training to support the social, emotional, and academic growth of students. The program will also engage students through an online educational platform.

The Hughes Educational Center looks forward to serving Montgomery County and surrounding areas in providing a specialized service for an underserved population. We look forward to integrating our services into the community and assisting in the growth, development, and future of our students.
