Conroe, TX: District looking for "creative solutions" to students' mental health needs

July 3, 2018, Houston Chronicle: Conroe ISD, Tri-County health group exploring deal for mental health services Conroe, TX If officials can finalize details of an agreement between the Conroe Independent School District and Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare this summer, some district students will have access to new forms of mental health counseling. In the wake of several mass school shootings that have shaken local communities across the country, CISD officials said they are looking at creative solutions to provide mental health services to disadvantaged students as well as students in need who might not otherwise receive those services. Initiating a memorandum of understanding between a school district and a healthcare group that is known to often provide free services is just one way they can achieve this goal, officials said. Evan Roberson, executive director Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare, told The Villager in an email the organization has been in discussions with officials from the Conroe ISD about starting a pilot program of school-based clinics at two of the district’s schools.
