Columbia Cty, GA: SPED charter school expands to 530; more than 1,000 kids on waiting list

June 26, 2018, Augusta (GA) Chronicle: Charter school to expand http://www.augustachronicle.com/news/20180626/charter-school-to-expand Columbia County’s first and only charter school is expanding…. The expansion coincides with the school’s steady growth. The charter school opened last August with 434 students in 20 homerooms from kindergarten through sixth grade. For the coming school year, because of a rise in the number of special-education students, SAIL over-enrolled slightly to allow 530 students…. Acceptance into the school is determined by lottery, and many area parents have expressed interest in SAIL’s different educational approach. More than 1,000 pupils are on a waiting list to attend.
