May 24, 2019, Chatham (NJ) Patch: Chatham Schools Recognize Mental Health Awareness Month https://patch.com/new-jersey/chatham/chatham-schools-recognize-mental-health-awareness-month May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, and the Student Assistance Counselors (SACs) at both Chatham High School and Middle School put together a calendar of events for students to participate in to raise awareness about mental health. According to officials, the purpose of these events has been to reinforce more healthy ways that students can cope with challenging situations, people, or emotions by increasing their resiliency. Some of the activities students have been encouraged to participate in include the following: • making stress balls • learning about pet therapy, dogs included Stella and Savannah, as well as Tucker from Creature Comfort • making a gratitude wall • creating lava beads with essential oils • participating in aromatherapy workshops, yoga, and guided meditation….
Childhood Lost
Children today are noticeably different from previous generations, and the proof is in the news coverage we see every day. This site shows you what’s happening in schools around the world. Children are increasingly disabled and chronically ill, and the education system has to accommodate them. Things we've long associated with autism, like sensory issues, repetitive behaviors, anxiety and lack of social skills, are now problems affecting mainstream students. Blame is predictably placed on bad parenting (otherwise known as trauma from home).
Addressing mental health needs is as important as academics for modern educators. This is an unrecognized disaster. The stories here are about children who can’t learn or behave like children have always been expected to. What childhood has become is a chilling portent for the future of mankind.
