Now principal of Lakeview Montessori School, she has also watched the frustration of parents follow the same steep path. In an effort to offer effective strategies and tools, the school has assembled a panel of guest speakers for a Mental Health Awareness Conference Jan. 24 at Beach Grove Golf and Country Club. “Basically the idea is coming from a need within the community,” Harris said of the forum, which is open to the public. “Mental health issues are growing exponentially around here without much support.” … “The stress level for children is increasing all the time,” she said. “Technology can bring stressors into their lives at home. “ Sonia Nicolucci, a Toronto therapist and parent educator, will be one of the guest speakers that evening. She’ll take a hard look at how the anxiety levels of some children are exacerbated by parents who over-book or over-schedule their child’s life with events and activities. … Nicolucci sees an increasing number of children from busy families feeling anxious…. Harris hopes to make the conference an annual event.
