The district is now spending $389,000 for additional counselling support through Catholic Family Services. The board has made Student Mental Health one of four pillars - along with Catholic Education, Facilities and Transportation - in the district’s revised Advocacy Plan, according to a board newsletter. Over the past six years or so, the district has noticed an increasing amount of students seeking counselling, Germann said. “Whether people are more aware of mental health or that there are more mental health needs, what we’re finding is people are seeking more support and teachers are asking for more support for students. “We see it all the way from anybody coming in from pre-K upwards to high school, but certainly you see (students) in what I call ‘middle years’ to high school as needing additional supports.”…
