Oct 29, 2017, Alberta, Canada, Ponoka News: Maskwacis educators excited with new alternate school https://www.ponokanews.com/local-news/maskwacis-educators-excited-with-new-alternate-school/ A new school has opened in Maswacis that addresses the special needs of its students. Called, Ehpewapahk Alternate School, the facility features state of the art technology for its educational needs while embracing the Cree and First Nations cultures that are so important to its students, explained principal Andrew Fulks. The official opening of the school was held Oct. 20 and it sits right next to Bear Park on the Ermineskin Cree Nation. … Those students who can’t function within regular schools are the intended receivers of Ehpewapahk Alternate School’s services. “It’s all about student-centred,” said Fulks. There are about 49 students at the school at this point, and while there is room for more, Fulks wants to ensure they get quality teacher/student time together. “We have lots of students who have anxiety and autism so they need space. They need low numbers so that we can have that one-on-one with them,” said Fulks. …

Childhood Lost
Children today are noticeably different from previous generations, and the proof is in the news coverage we see every day. This site shows you what’s happening in schools around the world. Children are increasingly disabled and chronically ill, and the education system has to accommodate them. Things we've long associated with autism, like sensory issues, repetitive behaviors, anxiety and lack of social skills, are now problems affecting mainstream students. Blame is predictably placed on bad parenting (otherwise known as trauma from home).
Addressing mental health needs is as important as academics for modern educators. This is an unrecognized disaster. The stories here are about children who can’t learn or behave like children have always been expected to. What childhood has become is a chilling portent for the future of mankind.
