Caldwell County Schools has added new support spaces for special education students this year.
Director of Special Education Kelly Byrd told the school board Monday night that the district has opened three highly structured resource rooms.
She said the rooms are located at the primary and elementary schools, with two classrooms at the elementary level.
Board members asked how students are chosen for the more structured setting.
Byrd also said the district has four new special education teachers this year, all of whom completed training over the summer.
She said preschool classes began Wednesday, with steady enrollment and continued student needs.
Byrd said the goal is to give younger students the support they need before kindergarten, while helping older students succeed in the classroom with fewer disruptions and more structure.
