The government announced this week that children with mild to moderate autism from the NDIS will be removed and diverted to community programs to combat some of these ballooning costs.
Now it’s a start, but it draws attention to the wider issue: more and more of our taxpayer dollars are being funneled into the wrong areas of schemes that are meant to be beneficial and life-changing.
News corps exposed the funding blowout onto the federal school disability payment scheme known as Nationally Consistent Collection of Data. Funding for the scheme which exists in addition to the NDIS has almost tripled in the past decade and is expected to soar past five billion dollars this year.
Some kids once considered naughty or struggling are now given a disability diagnosis by their teacher which can attract funding up to $45,000 per child, paid to the schools.
But the issue here is that not even the parents have any input into how this money is spent and often aren’t even told that their child is considered by the school to have a disability. . . .
In some states more than one in four children are now considered disabled by their school. That’s more than twice the rate of disability in children over all.
How are we—
Stay at home kids. Don’t go to school. You’ll just get disabled.
And calling them disabled when they are—call it what it is. These are essentially children who used to just have learning disabilities or were a bit socially awkward. And they do belong in those very severe cases they need---
