In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, Bradley Elementary School held its Bubbles for Autism celebration on April 28 to help raise awareness of autism and its spectrum of disorders.

This year's event theme was "Love Needs No Words."

Held in observance of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, the aim was to have students enjoy an activity while raising awareness for autism, a developmental brain disorder that can affect a person's ability to communicate and interact with others.

Activities included an autism acceptance banner parade, staff and students forming a heart on the soccer field, singing songs and a bubble-blowing finale. …

Bradley Elementary holds the event to encourage the community to accept and value those affected by the autism spectrum disorder, Chanta L. Jackson, the district's communication coordinator, said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), autism affects one in 36 children nationwide. Spectrum Disorder is nearly four times more common among boys than among girls. About 17% of children ages three to 17 were diagnosed with a developmental disability, as reported by parents, during a study period from 2009 to 2017, according to the CDC.

The Bradley Elementary School community held its annual Bubbles for Autism celebration on April 28 to help raise awareness of autism and its spectrum of disorders.
