April 24, 2024, 11Alive, Atlanta, GA: Autism Awareness Month

News clip

Anchor: April is Autism Awareness Month, and chances are either you or someone you know has a child with autism.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated one in 36 children in the United States and one in 45 adults.

Next an autism representative is interviewed about a service provider called Blue Sprig.

Provider: Blue Sprig is a facility you guys can have your families and your children go to. We’re actually across 19 different states all across America.

We’re providing ABA, Applied Behavioral Analysis, for all children with autism. . . .

Anchor: I know a few people with autism. . . .

I have friends who struggle with a children’s diagnosis. . . .

Because their behavioral is not typical, does not mean that [it] cannot be just as great as everything else. . . .

Just the routine of doing the same things, and then they thrive.

Why do you think autism awareness has grown so much recently?

Provider: Honestly it’s really just about acceptance and really understanding.

The more that people understand, the more people advocate for what’s going on, you tend to grow and we learn from experiences.
