A NEW centre to diagnose, assess and support people with autism is being launched in Christchurch by a leading charity.
Autism Unlimited is opening the Chris Page Centre (CPC) thanks to benefactor and former trustee Chris Page for referrals from adults across the country.
It will provide pre-assessment and diagnosis of the lifelong developmental condition which affects how people perceive the world and interact with others….
Manager Maureen Harrington said: “Clinical research shows that early diagnosis, intervention, education, and support can have a hugely positive impact on autistic people.
“However, with NHS diagnosis waiting times at around three years, many people currently face prolonged periods of uncertainty and confusion without help and support….
Autism Unlimited, which employs nearly 500 people across the south of England, supports autistic people through education, residential care and supported living.
It also owns and operates Portfield School in Parley, which provides specialist teaching and care for students aged four to 19 who hold an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis.
